Perth Scorchers Women's Cricket League Pilot - Expressions of Interest
Date of Event : Thu Feb 1, 2018 12:28PM

Expressions of interest are sought by the Western Australian Cricket Association from Senior Community Clubs to participate in the pilot of the Perth Scorchers Women's Cricket League.

Competition Outline
The Perth Scorcher's Women's Cricket League is designed to provide an opportunity for women aged 17 + to compete in a community cricket competition as a step towards filling the current gap in the female cricket pathway in WA. The competition will be suitable for those wanting to continue their cricket journey, returning to the game or wanting to give cricket a go for the first time and feel the Premier Women's competition is not right for them.

The Purpose
The Perth Scorchers Women's Cricket League will be run as a pilot in the 2017-2018 season. The creation of this pilot competition will allow the league to further develop in the 2018/19 season to account for the continued growth in female cricket It will also allow clubs to link with their junior community clubs and the local community and develop learnings that will inform competition specifics leading into the 2018/2019 season.

Competition Specifications

  • Two competitions will be held - one North and one South (venues to be confirmed)
  • Minimum of 4 teams will be required to make each competition viable.
  • Players must be 17yrs+ as at 1st January 2018
  • The format will be a 9 a side, T20 competition, run mid-week over four weeks.
  • Competition to take place in March
  • Proposed starting date is week of 5 March 2018

Player Eligibility
Given the Perth Scorchers Women's League is aimed at community level cricket aiming to encourage new participants to the game, the number of Premier Cricket players eligible to compete in each team will be capped at three (any requests for additional Premier Cricket players will be considered on a case by case basis).

It is important that the integrity of this pilot community competition is established from the outset as a transitional opportunity between junior girl's cricket and the Premier Cricket competition. The intent is not for this competition to duplicate the existing Premier Cricket pathway.

Selection Criteria
1. Clubs must commit to registering a team consisting of no less than 10 registered players who meet the stipulated age and eligibility criteria.
2. To be included in the pilot, clubs must nominate a key contact responsible for coordination of the team
3. Clubs are responsible for the recruitment of players for their team. The WACA will promote the competition and refer individuals to clubs as required.

Please forward your expression of interest to be included in this pilot competition to the WACA's Female Engagement Specialist, Emily Johnston via email by Wednesday 21 February 2018.
